This is a story about the miracle of speech—something only humans, among all living beings, are capable of creating. This book presents the Rhetoric–Rhetotherapy method I developed, based on over twenty years of experience working with audiences.
Donaldas Duškinas, lecturer, rhetoric and conscious breathing teacher

Rhetoric is one of the oldest human arts, often understood simply as the ability to speak persuasively, to present oneself, or to influence an audience. But that is just the tip of the iceberg. What lies beneath the surface? What is the true essence of rhetoric? Rhetoric is the art of free people. Retotherapy is a way to reach that freedom.

By studying rhetoric, we not only learn to speak and defend our arguments persuasively—we also begin to understand ourselves better.
We learn to relax, to recognize our fears and desires.
We learn to stand up for our truth, our beliefs, and our perspective.

We learn to experience the power of the pause.

Rhetoric is conscious speaking—completely different from the habitual, unconscious flow of words we’re used to in daily life.

Elements of Rhetoric–Rhetotherapy:

  • Our beliefs. Change the way you look at the world, and the world you look at changes. (Wayne W. Dyer)
  • Our breath. Whoever controls the breath, controls the situation. How do I breathe?
  • Our body. Is my body just a frame to support my head, or a temple where the divine lives?
  • Our voice. What is “my” voice? How can I find it?
  • Algorithms. Clear instructions for crafting and preparing an impactful speech.
